WW2 Opening
On Sunday October 13th the new WW2 exhibition was formally opened. Neil Atkins represented the museum and gave an introductory speech before "Captain Mainwaring" cut the ribbon and declared the exhibition open.
The dedicated volunteers created two room settings that resemble the appearance and decor typical of a Victorian/1940‘s home interior. Artefacts are either authentic or close replicas. Many are treasured items donated by volunteers and visitors.
Our evacuee bedroom is designed to bring to mind the heart rendering decisions many families faced when having to send their children to rural areas at the start of WW2. Operation Pied Piper was a Government led initiative which began in September 1939.
The kitchen/scullery is a mixture of modern and old items typically used across the Victorian era moving into the 1940’s and beyond.
