Cafe

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To be one of a team of volunteers in our welcoming cafe providing refreshments for visitors and volunteers.
• Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks
• Preparing and serving snacks
• Keeping the serving counter and kitchen preparation areas clean
• Cleaning and clearing away café tables.

This is a visitor facing role that would suit a self-motivated person who enjoys engaging with the public and creating a friendly and welcoming environment. Catering experience required, as well as a Hygiene Certificate.

Receptionist/Welcomer

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assisting with opening up and/or closing down of the Reception, Shop and Visitor Center
• Greeting visitors to the Museum
• Taking payment for entrance fees and issuing tickets
• Carrying out stock taking at the start of business
• Ensuring shop display is neat and tidy

Steward/Guide

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sharing inspirational stories, curious facts and practical information or simply allowing visitors to explore at their own pace

• Helping visitors to discover more, answering questions and making suggestions so they can enjoy their day

• Responding to the diverse needs of visitors, including people with additional access needs

• Learning more about the history of why and how, safe drinking water, was and is, supplied to the people of Herefordshire, and the ingenuity of engineers in enabling this

• Supporting with health and safety and evacuation procedures if required

Adminstrative roles

Cafe

Support the cafe team in its monitoring and recording of equipment 

Provide administrative support in preparing and  reviewing  Cafe procedures and   policies

The shop

Organise the regular  purchase of goods for the shop, costings, stock taking and related shop records.

Support and advise the Visitor Experience Team of  a range of suitable products and development of branded items.

Health and Safety

Support the Directors in its monitoring and recording of H & S including Risk Assessments and Equipment/ machinery Inspections  

Provide administrative support in preparing and  reviewing  H & S procedures and policies for the Governing Body.

Engineers

Volunteer Engineers with practical experience of working on engines and pumps are needed to help restore and maintain our extensive collection. The role includes helping to run the engines and pumps on our Operating Days when we are in-steam.

Buildings and Grounds Maintenance

We are looking for volunteers to help with DIY, general building and grounds maintenance to keep the Museum’s outside areas neat and tidy. This work is usually carried out on Tuesdays throughout the year. Volunteers will need to be able to work on their own initiative.

Marketing

An experienced marketing volunteer is needed to help promote the Museum. Activities include:  updating the marketing plan, planning advertising and social media activities, supporting our PR work to raise the profile of the Museum, promoting our Steam Days and related events. The role also includes developing marketing communications to enhance links with local and regional organisations including tourism, heritage and schools.
